It’s been a while since I’ve found a skirt I genuinely wanted to wear outside of work. I’ve had my fair share of “good in theory” pieces, but this one from Ruti isn’t one of them. It’s light – like activewear light – sculptural in shape, and so easy to move in. It reminds me of a piece from Tibi – that effortless kind of minimalism that still feels considered.

Quick intro, since I don’t think many of my fellow Aussies will be familiar with the brand (I certainly wasn’t until recently), Ruti was founded in 2009 by designer Ruti Zisser with the aim of redefining how we dress – combining comfort, ease, and considered style in pieces designed to move with you. The brand focuses on modern silhouettes that are cool and practical, with many styles available in both regular and petite fits – a small but very appreciated detail.

And that’s what I love most about this skirt – it actually comes in both regular (here) and the petite version I’m wearing. It feels like a small act of kindness for me and my fellow shorties. I didn’t have to alter a thing – the hem hits just right, and it moves beautifully when you walk. It’s practical, but not in that “sensible” way – the skirt works to elevate your entire look given how stylish it is, thanks to the draped detail.

Last weekend I paired the skirt with my Alemais knit that I picked up from the recent sample sale (this Uniqlo knit polo offers a similar vibe), my Teva sandals and my Saben bag. Most recently for work, I’ve styled it with my Frankie Shop vest (on the same day I caught up with Cat Sanz for an after work drink when she was in Sydney – see how reel here).

There’s a softness to the fabric that makes it ideal for travel too – it’s packable and takes up minimal luggage space, and no creasing thanks to the fabric. It’s also quick drying too, given the activewear-ish quality to the fabric I mentioned early – a welcome change from the zip-off hiking/travel pants I end up embracing.

The more I wear it, the more convinced I am that this skirt might just be the perfect “in-between” piece – the kind that slots effortlessly into work and weekends.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
