The in-between months can be the trickiest to dress for – those mornings when you’re not sure if you’ll be melting by lunchtime or shivering through your commute. This is where a solid shoe rotation does the heavy lifting – styles that bridge seasons, work across dress codes, and don’t make you regret your choice halfway through the day.

I’ve rounded up five styles from one of my favourite shoe brands, Ally Shoes, that tick all the boxes for transitional dressing – whether you’re heading into spring or autumn, depending on your hemisphere. They’re wearable and polished enough to take you from the office to after-hours. Notably, the shoes are podiatrist-designed, so all of the styles I feature in this post are incredibly comfortable. The shoes are available in an inclusive size range (from US 4 through to 12) and a variety of different widths. And unlike a lot of shoe brands for the masses, your pair from Ally Shoes will go into production as soon as you place your order – so there’s nothing really cookie cutter about their approach. It’s well documented that I’m a huge fan of their heels for work.

Let’s get crackin:

#1 – The New Sock Boot

L: Ally Sock Boots* (use VIRGINIA50 for $50USD off), Anna Quan top* (sz AU 8), COS tapered jeans* (sz 26),  Saint Laurent belt, Loewe bag, Le Specs sunglasses*; R: Ally Sock Boots* (use VIRGINIA50 for $50USD off), Anna Quan top* (sz AU 8), Sezane cardigan* (draped on shoulder – sz S), Uniqlo skirt* (sz S), Dragon Diffusion bag (also here and here), Status Anxiety sunglasses*

Behold, Ally’s newest launch, the sock boot! It might just be the answer you’re looking for when it comes to transitional dressing. Sock boots have well and truly returned, but this style is completely unlike the tight versions by Balenciaga and Christian Louboutin from back in the day (that were completely unflattering on those with shapely legs).

This new style from Ally Shoes is slim through the ankle (with just the right amount of stretch), and provides a nice clean line underneath trousers and skirts. I love how they’re sleek without feeling overly trendy. And as someone who’s the proud owner of shapely calves, they’re a very flattering style. They’ve been released in two very easy to style colours – black suede (my ones) and chocolate suede.

#2 – The Polished Loafer

L: Ally Shoes loafers* (use VEE10 for 10% off) styled with Sezane shirt (sz FR 36 / UK 8), Henne jeans (sz 26), Dragon Diffusion bag, Status Anxiety sunglasses*; R: Ally Shoes loafers* (use VEE10 for 10% off), Anna Quan top* (sz AU 8), Henne jeans (sz 27), Loewe bag (featured here), Arms of Eve earrings*, Status Anxiety sunglasses*

Loafers are non-negosh in my shoe wardrobe, and Ally’s version delivers the right balance of structure and softness. Think elevated enough for the office, but relaxed enough to wear on weekends with jeans. I have mine in this camel colour which delightfully works with my skin tone. You can read my comprehensive review of them here.

#3 – The Tall Boot

L: Ally boots* (use ‘VIRGINIATALLBOOT’ for 10% off), Sezane dress (sz UK 8), Loewe bag (featured here), Arms of Eve earrings*, Status Anxiety sunglasses*; R: Ally boots* (use “VIRGINIATALLBOOT” for 10% off), Anna Quan dress* (sz 8 – AU link, US link), Loewe bag (featured here), Arms of Eve earrings*, Status Anxiety sunglasses*

I have a solid collection of tall boots in my wardrobe but these boots from Ally Shoes are my favourite of the bunch. They’re a classic pointed toe style with a comfortable and walkable low block heel. I’ve got mine in chocolate brown calf leather and they have been a joy to style. They’re the kind of boot that instantly sharpens an outfit. Pair with a midi skirt for polish, or with a playful mini dress, like I’ve done many times (Exhibits A & B above). Have a read of my comprehensive review here.

#4 – The Ankle Boot

L: Ally Shoes boots* (use ‘VIRGINIA50’ for $50USD off all boots), The Curated blazer* (sz XS – review here), Arket tee (sz S), Nobody Denim jeans (new season wash linked), Celine bag, Ray Ban sunglasses; R: Ally Shoes boots* (use ‘VIRGINIA50’ for $50USD off all boots), Marks & Spencer trench coat* (sz AU 8), Stax tank* (sz S), Nobody Denim jeans (new season wash linked), July bag*, Ray Ban sunglasses

Ankle boots might be the most hardworking style in any shoe wardrobe. Ally’s OG ankle boots are a beauty – they’re designed with the dressy heel height of 7.5cm and the block heel makes these comfortable enough to wear all day.. I’ve styled mine with skirts and jeans – they’re a true wear-with-anything shoe style. My comprehensive review is here.

#5 – The Low Block Heel Boot

L: Ally boots* (use ‘VIRGINIA50’ for $50USD off boots), The Curated coat* (sz XS – same colour also available in this style), Sezane top (sz XS), Nobody Denim jeans (sz 26), Gucci bag (review here – AU link, US link, UK link also here), Arms of Eve earrings*, Ray Ban sunglasses; R: Ally boots* (use ‘VIRGINIA50’ for $50USD off boots), Arket trench coat (sz XS – review here), Sezane top (sz XS), Nobody Denim jeans (sz 26), Gucci bag (review here – AU link, US link, UK link also here), Arms of Eve earrings*, Ray Ban sunglasses

For those days when you want to rely on the faithful ankle boot but don’t want that much height, Ally’s lower block heel version of their boot is the answer. Designed in a walkable 5cm heel, they’re stable, subtle, and endlessly practical. Proof that comfort and polish don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Read all about them in my dedicated review here.

And finally, an honourable mention – the Kitten Heel by Ally Shoes – a classic style that never loses its charm – walkable, endlessly wearable, and quietly elegant. It’s one of my favourite silhouettes from the brand for good reason: just enough height to feel dressed up, but still comfortable enough for a full day on your feet. Consider this the understated hero of the bunch (I got into more detail about them here).

L: Ally Shoes kitten heels* (use ‘VEEHEELS40’ for $40USD off), Henne jacket (sz XXS), Everlane knit* (sz S – exact style linked though my colour isn’t currently in stock), Frankie Shop trousers (sz S), Bellroy bag* (review here), Francesca earrings* R: Ally Shoes kitten heels* (use ‘VEEHEELS40’ for $40USD off), Henne denim shirt* (sz XS-S), Uniqlo tank* (sz S), lululemon shorts* (sz S), Bellroy bag* (review here), Status Anxiety sunglasses*

Transitional dressing is all about having the right footwear to bridge the seasons – and Ally’s lineup of boots and loafers does exactly that. They’re thoughtfully designed, versatile, and (crucially) comfortable enough to keep up with the pace of real life. If you’re looking to update your rotation of transitional season shoe syles, these are the styles to start with.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
