We love a solid denim jacket in this corner of the internet. It’s that reliable middle ground between too-warm wool coats and flimsy layers that do nothing once the sun dips – the kind of piece you throw on without thinking and still look surprisingly pulled together.

As someone firmly approaching middle age, I’m all for a bit of anti-aging dressing, and a well-cut denim jacket can inject instant cool – if you pick the right one.

This is Part 3 in my outerwear series (catch up on trench coats here and classic wool coats here), and this time we’re talking denim – but not just your average boxy blue number. I’ve rounded up 12 of the best denim jackets this season, from cropped and classic to oversized, cord-trimmed and sailor-collared.

Henne denim shirt* (sz XS-S), Ally Shoes kitten heels* (use ‘VEEHEELS40’ for $40USD off), Uniqlo tank* (sz S), lululemon shorts* (sz S), Bellroy bag* (review here), Status Anxiety sunglasses*; R: Henne denim shirt (sz XS/S), Henne knit (sz S), Frankie Shop trousers (sz S), Celine bag (many years old – similar here from Loewe), Francesca earrings*, Dior heels (similar here – use ‘VIRGINIA40’ for $40USD off), Status Anxiety sunglasses*

Whether you’re after something polished, playful, or just easy to throw over a knit, there’s something in this edit for you.

Denim Jackets That Deserve a Spot on the Rack

Stay tuned for the next chapter in the series (spoiler: we’re heading into puffer territory). But in the meantime, I hope this edit gives you a few ideas for styling denim into your winter rotation – whether it’s layered under a coat or worn as a not-too-heavy top layer on brisk mornings.

P.S. Keep up with my daily outfits here.
