It’s taken me a while to come to terms with this, but I can definitively say that I’m no longer a high heels person. I know, I know. It’s very sad news. There was a time where I willingly subjected my feet to those 4-inch-inflictors-of-pain in the name of farshun, but after years of on-off lockdowns and hybrid working, all of my slippers-wearing and sneakers-schlepping antics have undone all of that training in building my high heels resilience… which is now non-existent. My excursions in 10cm stilettos are no longer! Truth be told, I’m totally fine with it. I honestly can’t believe I subjected my feet to the ridiculous shoes. The only sad part of this tale are the high heels gathering dust in my wardrobe. Their fate will be determined once I stop procrastinating about it…
That said, ya girl’s a shortie (I’m 5’2 or 158cm tall), so a little bit of height goes a long way. I’ve been getting my fix by embracing the low-to-mid-heel lifestyle. For the past couple of years, Ally Shoes has been a stand out brand in my wardrobe, particularly on that front. My heels from Ally Shoes are the most comfortable heels in my wardrobe, and you all know I’ve tried my fair share of styles from different brands in this space.

Their new style, the Slingback Kitten heel, is no exception, and I’m excited to share my thoughts now that I’ve been road-testing the style for the past couple of months. The style has a sleek silhouette that curves around the heel before sharpening into a sophisticated pointed toe. The slingbacks feature a 2” (or 5cm) kitten heel which offers a boost of height while being walkable about the same time. I’ve got the style in a light blue suede as well as the silver metallic leather to mix things up.

I love how a slingback adds polish to an outfit – it’s a true desk-to-dinner shoe! Personally, I find them to be more comfortable than my closed shoe counterparts, as they give my feet a chance to breathe, particularly in the warmer months. I appreciate that not all slingbacks are made equal particularly when the strap on the heel can make for an uncomfortable experience when it’s poorly designed. I’m happy to report that the Ally Shoes Slingback Kitten heel is a very comfortable shoe and the strap is elasticated, so it doesn’t dig in, nor does it slip off. You can expect all of the usual design features in the shoe to maximise comfort (like proper arch support, and a cushioned in-sole) and I go into further detail about them below.
I chose to add some statement colours to the mix to spice up my shoe rotation. The light blue suede adds both colour and texture to my outfits while the silver metallic leather adds a bit of drama! Each pair is made to order, so you can go down the statement colour route like I did, or opt for classic colours like black, navy and tan. There are over 30 colours to choose from, so the world is your oyster.

What makes them so comfortable?
Ally Shoes differs from ordinary shoe brands given their considered approach to design – not only are their shoes beautifully designed, but they’ve got a podiatrist on the design team. There are so many features embedded into the shoe to ensure your foot is properly supported when wearing the shoes, including proper arch support, a toe bed, a rubber sole and stretch lining. The shoes are offered in inclusive sizing from sizes US 4 through to 12 and offered in 4 different widths, ensuring you will find your perfect fit. You can work out your ideal size by taking the Fit Finder Quiz! Ally Shoes aren’t produced for the masses and each pair is handcrafted after an order is placed, so you can rest assured that they’ll be made to your specifications. The hard part will be picking what colour to go for! There are over 30 different options!
