Black ankle boots are never a bad idea. I’m sure you’re well aware they’re an incredibly versatile shoe. And in a landscape where there are so many trendy boot styles to try right now, nothing is more bang for buck than a pair of classic black boots. That said, black ankle boots are rarely the focal point of an outfit; but they’re the ideal support act – and the reason why your outfit comes together seamlessly.

I’ve owned a fair few heeled black ankle boots in my time – all of them beautiful, how comfortable they were is quite a different story. In today’s post, I’m sharing a pair of boots that nail both the beauty and comfort brief – in fact, they’re the most comfortable pair of black heeled ankle boots that I’ve ever encountered – a statement that I don’t make lightly.

Ally Shoes is a brand making waves in the innovative footwear space. They’re New-York based with a podiatrist on their design team. I tried my first pair of Ally Shoes at the beginning of the year and was absolutely blown away by the comfort (you can read my review here) so you can imagine how excited I am now that they’ve expanded their shoe range to boots! They’ve only released one style (which took them some time to perfect) – a classic heeled ankle boot. The team kindly sent a pair across to me a few months ago and I’ve been having a play with them since they arrived. The weather has really cooled down in Sydney in recent weeks so I’ve been reaching for them a lot more.

What makes the Ally Shoes Boot so comfortable?
The boots feature a sleek pointed toe and practical block heel and they’re handcrafted from premium calfskin leather. The block heel measures 3” (7.5cm) tall which makes them versatile enough to be dressed up and down.
If you haven’t tried a pair of Ally Shoes before, let me take a moment to fill you in on the comfort innovations they’ve embedded within their designs:
- Patented ergonomic support structure including:
- Padded insole
- Proper arch support
- Strategic toe cushioning
- Deeper heel cup
- Stretch lining (for maximum flexibility and to minimise any need to break-in the shoe)
- Micro-size range (US 4.5 through to 12 in half sizes and four different widths)
- Patented ergonomic support structure
- Heels are scientifically engineered to alleviate pain

Do they live up to their claims?
I’m pleased to report they do. The block heel naturally makes these a more stable boot to walk in, but it’s the padded insole that’s the real star for me. There’s arch support as well as padding under the toes to make your feet feel properly cushioned and supported. I wear these boots with a thick-ish pair of sport socks (these are my usual ankle boot socks) and my feet can last all day. It’s worthwhile noting that the comfort design of the boots mirror the comfort design of the heels – the insole, arch support, strategic toe cushioning, lining and heel cup is the same. Rather than 4 different widths offered for the heels, the boots are offered in 3 but they still come in the same broad micro-size range offered for the heels.
