Whenever I read lists compiled by stylists as to their favourite wardrobe staples, more often than not a white blazer makes an appearance with accompanying commentary about its versatility. It makes total sense – one of the most common outerwear pieces in an easy-to-style colour. A no-brainer, right? Well, before I share with you the 5 ways that I’ve styled my white blazer, also featured in my latest reel, I wasn’t the most enthused about this supposed wardrobe staple. For the longest time, I felt like it was a tad too mature, a bit country-club esque, perhaps a little bit old school 80s in my mind. Combined with the fact that I’ve got a great set of butterfingers, I considered it was a no-go zone as it was a given that I’d spill something on it.
The pandemic made me reassess a lot of items in my wardrobe, and I realised that my blazer collection was disproportionately dark – I’m talk 12 dark blazers and one beige one. It was limiting the versatility of outfits I could create. So I summed up the courage to branch out and give the white blazer a try, and honestly, I haven’t looked back. While it’s true that white clothing is a bit trickier to keep pristine, it’s not much different to caring for a white shirt or a white tee and it’s certainly not impossible to keep it looking sharp. I think the fear that it was too high maintenance held me back for so long as I’ve found it to be a truly versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. As for the mature/country-club vibe, I like to think I’m putting a modern spin on it!
In this post, I share 5 ways I’ve enjoyed styling my white blazer, both for work and for those times where you want to look polished and put together.
