I’m two weeks into my almost-four week break off work and judging by the daily forecast, summer has officially kicked in. I’ve leaned into holiday mode and transitioned to some more relaxed looks with the kids at home with us during their school holidays so today I’m sharing a typical casual summer holiday OOTD that not only makes me feel good but is comfortable enough to wear throughout the day.

Shorts and shirts are one of my favourite summer outfit combinations – it strikes the perfect balance between dressy and relaxed. The high waist black denim shorts I’m wearing are by Nobody Denim. They hit exactly where you want them to on the waist and the A-line style means they’re a looser fit on the leg so they’re not riding up when you’re sitting down or too constrictive when you’re up and about. I’ve paired them with a one shoulder white ribbed top from Everlane (here’s another option) then layered it up with a boxy shirt from Everlane. This oversized button-up has been one of my smart-casual go-tos and it’s the perfect transitional piece for those breezier summer days because it can be worn open as a jacket like I styled here, but also easily button-up with a midi skirt for the office.

I’ve completed the look with my trusty Birkenstock Arizona sandals, the comfiest sandals thanks to their arch support (but beware of ugly tan lines if you don’t sunscreen strategically!). These are on rotation with these other ‘ugly’ shoes for summer. And to cap it off (pun intended), I’ve sporting my new Patagonia cap that I treated myself to recently. While I typically reserve baseball caps for exercise, I’ve loved the idea of wearing them with everyday outfits since the ‘dad’ hat trend picked up steam. It’s the perfect amount of dag to complete my outfit!
I hope you’ve had a safe and happy festive season.
