If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that Arket has been one of my best discoveries in recent years since they started shipping to Australia.  Their classic items always feel so elevated and the price points are very reasonable considering they primarily use natural and organic fibres. Over the years I’ve increasingly relied on Arket to plug gaps in my wardrobe. The classic crew neck tee has been my numero uno since I discovered it in 2020 (I now have it in 7 different colours!) as is this striped knit I picked up earlier this year (which has made a fair few appearances over on my YouTube channel and on my IG feed).  So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m recommending yet another wardrobe staple from Arket, this time, their short trench coat.  And guys… this one’s a goodie.

Like many of the items in their collection, the Arket short trench coat has been around for a few seasons. I bought this on a whim a few weeks ago thinking it would be an ideal option considering the mild weather we typically experience here in Sydney. I was pretty pleased with myself when it arrived and have pretty much worn it every day since.  It’s the perfect jacket for that in-between transitional weather.

The style is a modern take on the iconic trench coat and features a deliciously oversized silhouette that plays with proportion.  I’m petite, so I’m always a tad apprehensive that oversized pieces will end up swallowing me whole, but as you can see, it actually works! The fabric is a medium-weight blend of linen and cotton and features all the classic details you’d find on a traditional trench coat, such as shoulder epaulettes, sleeve straps and a rain guard.  All these features make this trench interesting from all angles.

These days, my M.O. is to put together a fuss-free wardrobe in which all the pieces can easily be mixed and matched.  This trench nails the brief perfectly – it looks great styled up for the office but it also elevates my off-duty style when I’m out and about with the kids.  I ended up buying the XS, the smallest size on offer and it works well on my 5’2” frame.  The arms are long when worn loose, but I’ve tightened the sleeve straps and folded the cuffs to combat this.  I actually like how it looks and don’t think it necessary to pay a visit to the tailor to shorten the arms.

As I continue to unearth my perfect wardrobe basics, I’m finding that Arket is increasingly taking up more real estate in my wardrobe.  There’s no physical store in Australia (boo!) but thankfully they do ship here (with free shipping for all orders over $200USD).

As always, thanks for stopping by.

P.S. 10 of the best striped knits going round and the one mini skirt you need in your wardrobe.
