Since making the shift towards purchasing timeless and seasonless pieces for my wardrobe, not only have I been getting more mileage out of the items in my closet in recent years, but I find myself willing to invest in pieces that I know I’ll wear for a long time.  One area of my wardrobe that I’m willing to splurge on is coats.  And yes, I know, I know – I live in Sydney where we enjoy a temperate climate – but as soon as the temperature dips below 18 degrees C, I’m almost always throwing a coat over whatever it is I’m wearing! 🙈

If there’s one coat that has made waves in recent years, it’s the Totême Annecy Coat – their signature wrap coat that is deliciously oversized and beautifully draped.  I’ve recently added the houndstooth version to my wardrobe and to say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement!

Totême Houndstooth Annecy Coat (sz XS) – also available at Matches & Farfetch, Everlane cashmere knit* (sz XS), Everlane jeans*, Gucci belt (review here), Sarah Flint pumps* (review here – use ‘SARAHFLINT-BAWHATVEEWORE’ FOR $50 USD off your first pair), Celine bag (review here)

Totême has enjoyed a loyal fan base and continues to build in popularity.  The Stockholm-based brand was founded by Elin Kling back in 2014 and is centered around classic staples that have a modern take. The colour palette is neutral, with lots of camels, greys, creams, browns and blacks and all of their pieces play with proportions with the silhouettes they create.

Take the Annecy Coat – it features an exaggerated wide shawl lapel and concealed seam pockets that are framed with generous sleeves and side slits.  The luxurious blend of wool and cashmere means the coat beautifully drapes and falls just on the ankles, and is the perfect weight for layering or just over a t-shirt on milder days.  For reference, I took a size XS – I’m 5’2″ (158cm), a typical AU 8 and the size is perfect for me.

The fabric is luxuriously soft with its composition is 90% wool 10% cashmere (though it is worth noting that it is not as soft as my coats from The Curated which are both 70% merino 30% cashmere – here’s my review of one of those coats here).  I’m in love with the design and can’t wait to style whip this coat out more as it gets colder here.  I’ll be wearing this classic piece to work and when off-duty – it’s been incredibly easy to style so far.
