If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from blogging over the past couple of years, it’s that a good set of basics is everything when it comes to building a successful wardrobe. Finding said basics is, like all good things, easier said than done, however I find that once I do uncover the perfect basic, it remains a steadfast staple in my wardrobe for many years. I can’t say that I’ve managed to meet my sartorial “life partners” in all areas of my wardrobe just yet, but the classic t-shirt is one category that I’m proud to say I’ve conquered!
It might come as a surprise to know that my perfect tee comes from the high street brand, Arket (which also featured in my Top 10 discoveries of 2020). While there are no physical Arket stores in Australia as yet, their online store does ship here and thank goodness for that. Arket offers high quality basics made from premium fabrics at reasonable prices. The brand’s crew neck t-shirt ticks all the boxes – it’s not see-through, has a high neckline, a flattering boxy cut that is fitted across the shoulders. The fit is just right to be smart enough to wear to the office.
I purchased the white crew neck t-shirt last year and have since added three more colours to my collection – light beige, dark blue and dark beige. At ~$25 AUD a tee ($20USD/£15), it’s a steal. I wear my tees with everything from tailored trousers to the office to denim shorts when running around with the kids on weekends. It’s a multi-tasking hero piece in my wardrobe. For reference, I took a size S in all of the tees and it’s the perfect boxy fit (I’m a true AU 8 /US 2-4). It’s worth noting that Arket also do a heavyweight version which you can take with you into the evening.
