There’s nothing quite as polished and practical as a beige trench coat. It’s the ultimate wardrobe staple that you can rely upon and it’s not hard to see why it holds its status as a ‘forever piece’ among the style set. While it’s a staple in any wardrobe, the shoulder seasons are the ideal times to incorporate a trench into your every day look because it’s the perfect lightweight layering piece for when you’re in the midst of transitioning your wardrobe between seasons.
There’s no shortage of styling inspiration, either. Whether you wear it cinched at the waist with a contrasting belt, or open to show off your outfit underneath, the ways to style a beige trench coat are virtually endless, which is why it is the next wardrobe staple under the spotlight as part of my new ‘One Item 4 Ways‘ styling series.
While it does get updated and reimagined with changing seasons, I’ll never say no to the classic cut which maintains a silhouette that is always elegant.
#1 & #2 – Business Casual and Smart Casual
Left: Trench coat styled with Reiss knit, Gucci belt (review here), Nobody Denim jeans, Celine Cabas tote (review here), Dior slingbacks (preloved here), Ray Ban sunglasses; Right: M&S knit top* (sold out, similar here), Ana Pena London skirt*, Vince Camuto heels (sold out, similar here), Celine bag (review here)
The trench coat I’m featuring here is from Uniqlo that I was lucky enough to snap up on sale earlier in the year. It’s currently sold out, but this hugely popular Marks & Spencer version (of which I have the navy version as you would have seen me style recently over on Instagram) is very similar alternative and offers a finish that looks waaaay beyond its high-street price tag (FYI – I wear a size UK 6 in the trench as it comes up a tad large).
#3 & #4 – Blues and Neutrals
Left: Trench coat styled with M&S knit* (sold out, similar here), Nobody Denim jeans, Everlane flats*, Celine bag (review here); Right: Trench coat styled with Everlane jeans*, Everlane boots*, Celine bag (review here, affordable dupe here), Ray Ban sunglasses
If chosen well, a trench coat can serve you as one of your holy grail wardrobe pieces – thanks to its ageless and season-less track record. With the increasing consciousness in the fashion world for quality pieces that last and a more sustainable outlook on shopping, a great quality trench is the ultimate “buy now, wear forever” piece.
I hope this post provided you with some inspiration for styling a beige trench coat.
P.S. See the ways I’ve styled my white jeans and my light neutral coloured blazer.
